PARIS (04/03/2000) - Network operator and Internet service provider France Télécom SA has announced plans to license the search engine technology behind its Web portal site Voilà.
The company has created a new subsidiary, Voila Search Solutions, to commercialize its proprietary Thematic Search Engine technology to vertical portals and community sites, it said in a statement today.
Voila provides local content in local languages for 10 European countries, the company said. The company offers language-specific and themed databases, allowing its customers to restrict their users' Web searches to a specified topic. The thematic database is built automatically using a Web crawler and a semantic analyzer.
