If ASP's the way to go, CSC wants to be there

If ASP's the way to go, CSC wants to be thereComputer Sciences Corp has thrown some weight behind its 350-strong national applications team by appointing Mark Register vice president of application services Australia. Register's job is to build the application outsourcing and ASP business and he reports to Mary Jo Morris, president of CSC's application services division in the US.

"In Australia we will partner with local SMEs, draw on our experience in the finance, health, government and SAP sectors especially, and leverage our alliances with key software and professional service providers", Register explained.

He joined CSC when it acquired the Australian operations of GE Capital IT Solutions.

Around the traps

Peter Upton, who until January was the high profile executive director of the Australian Information Industry Association, has been appointed executive director of Electronic Frontiers Australia. It is understood the position is not full time, but Upton will be required to lobby politicians in Canberra on issues such as the censorship of the Internet and online privacy regulations.

Bill Brooks has been appointed vice president and general manager for the Asia/Pacific of the newly created Clarify Applications division of Nortel Networks. He was previously general manager of call centre operations with Suncorp Metway.

Also joining Nortel, albeit at a less exalted level, is Mitch Radomir who has moved into the market portfolio manager's job. Radomir, who seems to have worked for every company in the telecommunications space, joined Nortel from NetStar Networks, where he was business development manager.

Peter Conway has been appointed to the board of NAB's National Online Trading operation. Previously a director of Ord Minnett and ANZ Securities, he was also a founding director of E*Trade Australia.

E-commerce software developer Intershop has appointed Robert Logan as its partner sales manager and John Stace as its sales manager for commerce service providers. Logan was previously with Realtech Australasia, while Stace was with Visio International.

Paul Buzby has been appointed sales director of sales automation developer SalesLogix Australia and New Zealand. He has been involved in the industry for some 15 years and has held managerial roles at Computer Associates Australia and Sun Microsystems.

Doug Anthony, former leader of the National Party, has been reappointed chairman of the board of the Australian Government's Networking the Nation program, which has $A421 million to distribute to projects that will help meet the communications needs of rural and remote Australian communities.

Over there

Dell has appointed James Schneider CFO, replacing Tom Meredith who has been put in charge of the newly-formed Dell Ventures investment group.

There would appear to be quite serious problems at the German headquarters of Fujitsu Siemens Computers, where Winifried Hoffmann and Robert Hoog have resigned their joint presidencies. A statement released by the company noted that a "new management style" is required if the company is to achieve its goal of becoming number one computer seller. Tetsuo Urano has been appointed interim CEO of the company. It is understood the Siemens-Fujitsu venture lost $US38.5 million in the four months after the merger in October 1999 and half of that amount last month alone.
