Vodafone Australia has selected United Energy Telecommunications (UET) to build its 200-kilometre fibre-optic network between Sydney and Melbourne.
Under the five-year, $14 million contract, UET will also supply Vodafone with real-time monitoring, maintenance and service planning.
According to officials, Vodafone was seeking a partner who could provide a "cost-effective delivery system", as well as the ability to deliver the network in the "shortest possible time".
"Increasing competition, customer demand, and growth has encouraged Vodafone to seek a reliable partner who not only has the bandwidth capacity, but also the ability to deliver quality of service that is world class in nature," officials said.
