CA, J.P. Morgan push app-management standard

Computer Associates (CA) and J.P. Morgan & Co. are co-sponsoring a standard specification for an application management-framework that is focused on business processes and heterogeneous computing.

The initial draft specification of the companies' proposed Appli-cation Management Interface (AMI) is to be submitted to The Open Group, a vendor-sponsored initiative focused on technology integration.

An object-model based on AMI is designed to enable reporting of software behaviors to a number of IT management tools. Written by J.P. Morgan in conjunction with CA, AMI defines an open, two-way API. CA has implemented AMI in its Unicenter TNG enterprise management software.

One of AMI's objectives is to align technology resources with business priorities by enabling technology managers to prioritise IT services based on business impact, officials from the two companies said.

AMI will also provide facilities for defining resources that affect business processes, establish a standard mechanism for managing control points within an application, and create a technology-neutral approach for integration with external systems management frameworks.
