Cisco and USI team on enterprise I-commerce

Cisco Systems this week will announce that it is teaming up with USinternetworking (USI) to help create Internet-commerce systems for enterprises.

Cisco's Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) will help enterprises to implement I-commerce solutions that use USI as an application hosting service.

IBSG was created in 1998 to provide consulting services based on the company's experience in I-commerce.

USI offers a set of applications hosted at its facilities, including PeopleSoft and other kinds of applications, as well as Broadview for I-commerce.

Initially, Cisco will help USI to more quickly implement Broadview I-commerce solutions for USI clients.

Working with USI, Cisco will help to ensure the reliability and quality of service of the hosting services, Cisco officials said.

The companies plan to market the business service particularly focusing on small and mid-size businesses that may not have the resources to create their own I-commerce systems.

In the future, the companies may extend their cooperation to include setting up other types of solutions, according to Cisco officials.

USI currently operates its services on a network of Cisco equipment.
