Digital releases Web clustering server softwareThis July, Digital Equipment's Internet business unit plans to release Web clustering server software based on its AltaVista search engine technology.

Web Cluster software will run on Digital Unix and Windows NT platforms. It will allow multiple servers to appear as a single server, providing automatic fail-over and increased security against external attacks. Unlike cluster technology that allows Web servers to share memory, Web Cluster is designed to let multiple Web servers share HTML processing.

SAP pushes supply chain integration systemSAP announced it has begun early delivery of real-time supply chain integration software that links a company's internal operational systems with outside applications such as decision support and supply chain management, tailored to specific industries and companies. Under its new initiative, SAP is integrating decision support, data warehousing, planning, optimisation, supply-chain forecasting, sales force information and customer self-service systems in a closed loop with enterprise financials, logistics and human resources systems.

IBM boosts business intelligence offeringsIBM last month boosted its profile in the decision-support and business-intelligence market with a slew of new software offerings. Included in the rollout was the introduction of DB2 OLAP Server, which supplements the DB2 Universal Database RDBMS with online analytical processing (OLAP), using technology licensed from Arbor Software. It is shipping now, but pricing was unavailable. The company also announced a companywide program of new products, services, consulting, sales specialists and partnerships geared toward the business intelligence market. Business intelligence is the gathering, management and analysis of data, which then is used to make decisions.
