N2H2 Releases Filtering for Red Hat Linux v2.0

N2H2, a global Internet content filtering company, has released version 2.0 of the company's Sentian and Bess lines of filtering products for Red Hat Linux.

The new Red Hat Linux version, the company says, "offers a number of powerful features and a simple Web-based interface, and is designed to integrate with many popular caching and firewall devices."

The new release includes:

  • Virtual Reviewer - This opt-in feature allows customers to automatically forward sites added to local block and allow lists to N2H2 each night for review and categorization, keeping customized block and allow lists compact and efficient.
  • Delegated Administration Enhancements - Enables one network "super administrator" to delegate certain administrative tasks to other administrators within the network. The new release allows sub-administrators to create local block/allow lists and customized message screens.
  • Monitor Only and Soft Block - Because many organizations want to better understand their Internet use without adversely impacting users, administrators can choose to monitor traffic, or to be alerted when a particular user accesses a specified category.

Other major enhancements, says a N2H2 spokeman, include flexible user definable keyword and file type blocking, support for iPlanet (Sun ONE) and Novell Directory Services.

"The new Red Hat Linux version is designed to integrate with many popular caching and firewall devices, including the Cisco Content Engine, Cisco PIX Firewall, Novell BorderManager, SonicWALL, Stratacache, and 3Com SuperStack. For the first time, N2H2 for Red Hat Linux will offer support for the popular Check Point FireWall-1, as well as the Squid Proxy and the Novell Volera Excelerator," he added.
