Primus eyes SME telecomms

Telecommunications carrier Primus Telecom has introduced an alternative business telephone service for the SME market providing high speed Internet access and local and long distance telephony over the digital network.

Called Digital Direct, it offers a cheap alternative without changing customer equipment or phone numbers.

Primus Telecom general manager for product management, development and strategy Campbell Sallabank said the adoption of voice over DSL effectively "futureproofs" a business against changing technology.

“By using packetised technology, we can provide a Broadband Internet service and a telephone service over one line while passing on significant savings in reduced line rental and call costs,” Sallabank said.

The service provides a communications alternative based on a business-grade Internet service, therefore providing enhanced benefits over analogue technology including improved voice quality and the option of add-on features, company officials said.
