Dimension Data addresses the crime scene

Dimension Data has launched a new managed security service that it claims offers forensic-style crime scene analysis.

The Incident Management and Response Service is based on EnCase Enterprise software, as used by the Federal police.

The solution was put together in response to customer demand and had been positively received at the recent AusCert security show in Queensland, corporate communications manager, Martin Aungle, said.

"A lot of incidents have to be contained to protect a company's reputation," he said. "Internal security breaches especially, have to be discretely dealt with."

The service was being offered both as an in-house solution as well as an outsourced service, Aungle said. Deployment also included customer training on incident management. The services organisation has recruited two staff with forensic IT skills to support it.

The solution was being sold to enterprise and medium-sized companies in the form of a three-tiered offering. The Incident Risk Assessment Service provides clients with a snapshot of their current security infrastructure and identifies hotspots to prevent incidents and improve security controls.

The Incident Response Service is aimed at clients affected by a computer security attack, while the Incident Preparation Service looks holistically across policy, procedure, and technology.

All of the new services would be run out of Dimension's Melbourne operations centre, Aungle said.
