EMC bundles consulting services for the channel

Storage provider, EMC, has launched a newly branded consulting service in a bid to boost its non-hardware based revenues.

EMC Consulting, as its known, would be sold through its existing channel as well as new partners globally, EMC marketing director, Jordan Reizes, said.

"Services are an important part of our revenues at around 20 per cent now, but we would like to grow it," he said.

The nucleus of the service would be formed from its internal technical services department but staffing resources would be reviewed according to demand, Reizes said.

Details of the local channel rollout were still being put together but would offer resellers a new revenue stream, he said.

Promotion of the new mid-market service could benefit EMC resellers that wanted to extend revenues to consulting services, Reizes said.

The service would involve new partners being trained in EMC analysis software tools, methodology and an understanding of information lifecycle management (ILM).

The company had a global agreement with Accenture but national consulting partners such as SIs would be important for sales of the new EMC Consulting brand locally, Reizes said.

Among its 12 local partners are Dimension Data, XSI and Tripoint.

Particular opportunities for consulting existed in network data optimisation and information classification, Reizes said.

"Network data is growing at 60 per cent per annum and is almost out of control so companies have the choice of either throwing more hardware at it or better utilising what they've got," he said.
