SonicWall signs up e-Sentinel for training

Networking vendor, SonicWall, is introducing a new range of channel-specific courses through training provider, e-Sentinel, to try and raise its amount of certified networking engineers.

Country manager, Tim Dickinson, said the courses, which would run every month in eastern states, and less frequently in the west, would be supplementary to existing training programs provided by its distribution partners, Dovetail, Ingram Micro, ACA Pacific and Lan 1.

"We have brought in a non-distribution training partner to provide more structure to our training and to boost the number of engineers we have in the field," he said. "Our distribution partners will still deliver their own personalised training - this is just an additional resource."

Dickinson said he agreed with other networking vendors, including Cisco Systems and Nortel, which had suggested there was a shortfall of qualified engineers in Australia today.

"We are taking it upon ourselves to push more training into the channel," he said.

The first course to be launched will be based on the Certified SonicWall Security Administrator (CCSA) level one and two qualifications.

The classroom-based training program runs for two days and incorporates a certification exam. The first dates will be: Sydney - November 22; Melbourne - November 29; and Brisbane - December 7.

The course costs $1995 including the exam. Once qualified, partners would be eligible to attain silver status, Dickinson said.

This provided additional benefits such as buy breaks through distribution, he said.

SonicWall was also planning to launch a new certification based on its Global Management System offering later this quarter.

Although refusing to disclose the number of CCSA engineers in Australia, Dickinson claimed the vendor had a high percentage of channel partners with qualifications.
