Galileo releases Web services middleware

Galileo International Inc. is selling a Web services integrator to its customers.

The subsidiary of Cendant Corp. said Monday that it has developed middleware based on XML and the Simple Object Access Protocol. The software will allow customers such as hotels and travel agencies to cull information either from the Web or from the giant reservation system clearinghouses and post it on a Web site or in an HTML-based e-mail.

"We're currently deploying Web services with select customers and will introduce Web services solutions to all of our customers in the upcoming months," said Mickey Lutz, Galileo's CIO, in a statement.

Galileo's computer reservation system provides price and availability information on airfare, rental cars, hotels and other travel-related services in huge data centers that other travel providers and travel agents can then access and use to make reservations.

"With Web services, customers can easily access information from Galileo to do anything, from building an Internet booking engine to integrating travel information within their Web sites, with Web access as their only requirement," today's release said.
