Accenture posts strong 2000 profits

Global IT consulting firm Accenture posted $US10.3 billion in revenue for the year ended December 31, 2000, a result fueled by growth in services, the firm said.

Australian and New Zealand revenue was $400 million last year, a 24 per cent increase over 1999 results. The global result was a 10 per cent increase over 1999.

The firm's Asia Pacific region accounted for the largest percentage increase in overall revenues, with 21 per cent growth (in US dollars).

Revenue in the Americas grew 11 per cent, and Accenture's Europe/Middle East/Africa/India (EMEAI) region recorded 6 per cent growth.

Accenture's Products global market unit achieved the highest growth rate of the firm's five global market units, with revenue of $US2.1 billion, a 21 increase over 1999.

The firm's largest unit, Communications and High Tech, reported revenues of $US3 billion. The Financial Services and Government units posted $US2.7 billion and $US811 million respectively. The Resources unit revenue remained unchanged at $US1.7billion.

Accenture CEO and managing partner Joe W. Forehand noted that increased demand for services created an upward trend in revenue growth in the second half of 2000. Accenture's service offerings include IT solutions for mobile phones, laptops, PDAs and other portable devices.

The firm also added to its talent pool by increasing headcount by 2000 last year, Forehand said.

Accenture Australia declined to comment on profit results for 2000.
