The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is to source a new three-year managed telecommunications service provider.
In tender documents AMSA said it was seeking managed telecommunications services for its 245 staff across its head office in Canberra and principal offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
The AMSA said its Internet services were currently provided via Telstra’s Secure Data Centre with connectivity via two 100Mbit WDM based fibre connections via the ICON fibre network to the Telstra Secure Data Centre in the Deakin Exchange, Canberra.
The AMSA voice network is comprised of a variety of separate systems installed at each site with the standard system used in most of the larger offices being a Nortel supplied and maintained Meridian Option 11c. A Telstra supplied and maintained NT40 or NT132 Commander system is used in some smaller offices.
AMSA’s WAN, which provides data transport services for divisional operations between 19 locations, uses Telstra’s IPWAN network and xDSL tails to remote sites to provide connectivity between AMSA’s head office LAN and regional and remote office LANs.
The WAN provides connectivity for staff to access corporate business systems on SUN servers hosting Oracle databases. Windows 2003 and Exchange 2007 servers located in AMSA’s head office and disaster recovery facility (DRF) and major regional offices support AMSA’s office and email systems.
AMSA's main computer data centres and the hub of its data, voice and Internet communications facilities are located in its Canberra head office data centre and its Mitchell ACT disaster recovery facility.
