The global recession of 2009 changed a lot of things, but, it would seem, none more than Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer.
Ballmer, well known for his ‘dynamic’ live performances, shocked attendees of the 2010 CES with his cut-back, down-sized, almost staid keynote performance.
There were signs of pre-recession let-the-good-times-roll Steve with his ‘We Bing!” comments but there was nothing like the classic Steve we’ve all come to know and worry deeply about:
Ballmer, like Microsoft itself, is a bellwether of the IT industry. When he’s up, the industry is up. When he’s down, the IT industry is down.
If the industry is struggling with finding a way to get out of the recession, the answer is simple – get Steve hyped-up again.
Economists say that late 2010 should bring a return to normality, and we hope, a return to classic Steve – just in time for the CES 2011 and a meltdown of a different type.
