Internode has announced it is moving to increase the security protection of its customers with an update to its network firewall.
In an email to customers, the ISP said that from late February through to early March it will be progressively updating its network firewall to provide increased protection against newly emerging Internet security issues.
The ISP first launched the network firewall, then called a Network Port Filter, in April 2006, in an effort to help customers avoid common virus and spam issues.
Under the change, Internode will add additional network ports to its existing network firewall settings.
Specific ports being added are: 80 (HTTP), 443 (HTTPS), 22 (SSH), 23 (TELNET) , 8080 (HTTP PROXY), and 3128 (HTTP PROXY)
In January Internode announced it had hired technology entrepreneur Frank Falco as its CIO following an 18-month stint on the company’s board.
During the month it also launched MiFi, a pocket-sized wireless gadget which brings together WiFi and 3G mobile broadband.
