Synergy Plus appoints Alphawest founder as CEO

Former Alphwest chief, Garry Henley, takes the reins of ASX-listed integrator, Synergy Plus

Synergy Plus (ASX:SNR) has settled on Alphawest founder and former chief executive officer, Garry Henley, as its new chief executive officer.

Henley will take over the reins from acting CEO, Peter Cappendell, who moves to the chief operating officer position.

The integrator was officially formed less than 12 months ago as a result of a merger between ComputerCorp and the then Hyro-owned IBM specialist unit, Synergy Plus.

The original plan for the merged integrator was supposed to also include S Central.

In the 11 months since the announcement in March 2009, however, Synergy Plus lost its initial CEO, former ComputerCorp chief, Robin Rindel, for the combined entity. And acting CEO and S Central’s founder and managing director, Peter Mavridis, stepped down from the same role after only two months to help finalise the merger, which ultimately failed.

S Central eventually appointed receivers to the disgust of many of its staff before being picked up by rival Brennan IT. In the meantime, Cappendell was appointed acting CEO of Synergy Plus.

Synergy Plus chairman, Domenic Martino, said the integrator's board had "committed to the market that it would wait to ensure the right candidate was found before formally appointing a new CEO".

"Synergy Plus has made considerable progress during the past six months and we have found in Garry the qualities to continue to drive our planned growth," Martino said in a statement.

"The transformation of Synergy Plus is well underway and is starting to show some significant results. Customers, partners and staff are starting to see the outcomes of the transformation and Garry's role will be to continue to deliver on the transformation plan that the board has put in place."

Henley's appointment follows news that Synergy Plus posted positive financial results to the ASX for the six months to 31 December 2009 and acquired staff and assets from failed rival Leading Solutions.
