Hewlett-Packard has expanded its consulting services to help enterprises get a better handle on the range of new client devices and software that have recently been introduced to the market, the company announced Wednesday.
"User experience is starting to change pretty dramatically now. The whole range of client devices is changing," said Alan Wilson, who is HP's vice president of HP's technology services' solutions infrastructure practice.
Wilson pointed to the usage of new devices such as the Apple iPad, netbooks and virtual desktop clients.
"That whole range of devices really wasn't there a few years ago," Wilson said. Another big task awaiting enterprises is migrating to Windows 7, he said.
The HP Client Infrastructure Services is a set of consultation and management offerings designed to help a business fold new client devices into their infrastructure, as well as help them with migrations to Microsoft Windows 7.
Such services would be particularly handy for companies that have a wide range of different hardware and software, and have difficulty managing these assets, said Tom Norton, an HP global practice director.
HP could help a company inventory its assets, find out what needs to be updated, and then establish a plan to streamline the infrastructure for easier management.
HP's strategic consulting services will help a customer align its IT strategy with its business strategy, and help the customer set up a road map for client infrastructure. The company also has individual consulting services for setting up client virtualization and Windows 7 migration. It can also help them package applications for virtualization and help them secure these applications.
