Yahoo appoints new chief technology officer

Former Yahoo Chief Architect Raymie Stata takes on a new role as company CTO

Consumer Web portal company Yahoo has appointed a new chief technology officer, with former Chief Architect Raymie Stata taking on the role immediately, Yahoo announced Thursday.

The former CTO, Farzad Nazem, stepped down in April.

In his new role, Stata will oversee all of Yahoo's advanced technologies and drive the technical direction of the company.

Hired by Yahoo in 2004, Stata, as chief architect, was instrumental in defining the company's search strategy, as well as development of its new advertising platform and move to a cloud computing-based infrastructure.

According to the company, Stata will work with Chief Product Officer Blake Irving and Chief Scientist Prabhakar Raghavan.

No doubt Stata will have a tough job ahead of him, as the company has experienced flagging user engagement recently.
