UTS deploys network monitoring

The solution will provide its IT users with an end-to-end view

The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) has deployed a new network monitoring solution aimed at providing an end-to-end view of the experience to its thousands of IT users.

The solution, provided by Nimsoft Monitoring Solution, replaces a number of existing point solutions, and will allow UTS IT staff to monitor core applications across its production, test and disaster recovery data centres.

With the new solution, UTS’s team can monitor 10 to 12 systems on a single dashboard, and being browser-based, can be provided to other university departments to illustrate the health of their applications.

UTS has 24,000 students and hundreds of applications, such as CRM, email and databases to support university administration, located in student labs and the university’s physical and virtual infrastructure.

The university’s IT setup includes Unix, Linux, Windows and VMware environments as well as Oracle, SQL and other business-critical applications.

In March UTS received more than $1 million in free financial software licences to be used by post-graduate finance students.

In September last year it said it would provide greater access to information for staff, academics and students through a review and revamp of its reporting systems.
