A number of PCs and monitors are being replaced by the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Tasmania as its current hardware reaches end of life.
According to department documents, it expects to buy 145 small form factor Windows 7 ready desktops by June 2011. These will need to feature energy efficient power consumption, Intel Core i5 processor, and include a four year warranty.
"If a provider offers a significant discount for a bundled desktop/screen offering, it may be in the Department’s interest to accept such an offer. However, if no bundle offer represents value for money, the agency will keep existing screens in service,” state the documents.
Due to the needs of the department, it is looking to procure an additional 65 wide screen monitors which must be 22 inch LCD with 32 bit colour.
It also wants to purchase 50 laptop computers and favours the Lenovo Thinkpad T410 as this is already being used by the agency. However, the department is prepared to consider other models.
“Strength of casing is a key issue. The screen should not be able to be flexed and overall casing should be strong enough to withstand a highly mobile four year life span,” the documents said.
The notebook is required to be slim and light weight as there is an expectation that the notebook will be a mobile offering. The weight of the notebook will need to be included in the response.
“It should be able to be comfortably carried by any person in the agency who might need to utilise a mobile computing solution, including possibly interstate or overseas.”
The notebooks must also feature the Windows 7 operating system, 4GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive.
The tender follows a 30,000 email consolidation project taking place over the next three years in Tasmanian government departments.
