Microsoft Store server failure causes customer headaches

Payments for software delayed by up to two weeks

Microsoft Australia has confirmed that an internal technical issue delayed the processing of software orders purchased online in December 2010 through its store.

According to the company, a technical issue with its servers meant that when orders were placed the payments could not be processed.

According to one Microsoft customer, the problem came to light following a call from the Microsoft Store stating that it had not received credit card payment for the purchase of Windows 7 home edition on 4 December, 2010.

According to the customer, bank statements confirmed the payment was not processed until 22 December -- more than two weeks after the software was originally purchase.

A response to the customer from Microsoft claimed "a few customers" had experienced the technical issue.

"Please accept our apologies regarding this inconvenience,” the vendor's customer service staff said in the response.

Microsoft was contacted for further comment but is yet to respond.
