Nominations are now open for the 2011 Government ICT Awards which reward the use of ICT by government, acknowledge outstanding initiatives in eGovernment and recognise the achievements of those in the ICT industry.
Special Minister of State, Gary Gray, made the announcement and said the awards, managed by the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), provide the Government with an opportunity to recognise outstanding initiatives in eGovernment across a number of ICT disciplines and to promote excellence in the use of ICT in all areas of Government.
“This year two new awards have been introduced for Government 2.0 (Gov 2.0) innovation, which recognise the use of Web 2.0 tools, such as blogs, Twitter and social networking, to improve agency service delivery,” Gray said in a statement.
The first new award introduces a Gov 2.0 category in the Excellence in eGovernment Award, and aims to recognise projects that use Web 2.0 tools to improve agency and program performance.
The second new award is the Gov 2.0 Innovator Award, which has been introduced to recognise individual public servants who champion Web 2.0 tools.
“In the spirit of Gov 2.0, we are inviting members of the community to nominate agencies and individuals for the Gov 2.0 Awards,” Gray said.
“We want to know who is using social media to better engage with the public, to open up government communications and provide government information in the most effective way."
The Excellence in eGovernment Award covers a further four categories including applications development, geospatial, project management, and service delivery.
The Australian Government ICT Professional of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievement by a team or an individual in any ICT discipline.
Nominations close on 29 March this year and winners will be announced at the ICT celebration dinner at the CeBIT Australia Conference on 1 June 2011.
