Alphawest growth prompts Unisys services deal

Unisys to offer ITIL-compliant support and infrastructure management services to select clients

Optus subsidiary and ICT services contractor, Alphawest, will offer remote and on-site IT support to selected clients under a new deal with Unisys.

The ITIL-compliant Smart On-Site Services portfolio was first launched by Unisys in 2009 and is currently offered under private label arrangements to vendors including EMC.

Services offered to Alphawest clients under the deal will include IT support as well infrastructure installations and migrations. Unisys claimed its portfolio could save on-site service costs by up to 20 per cent.

Alphawest acting chief executive, Ian Smith, said in a statement that the company’s continued growth sparked the need for a services partner.

“As the Alphawest business continues to grow, we require a services partner aligned with industry best practice methodologies and processes to support the increasing complexity of our customers’ ICT infrastructure,” he said.

However, no mention was made of which Alphawest clients would be eligible for the services portfolio and how they would be notified. Computerworld Australia contacted the company for clarification but did not receive a reply at time of writing.

The deal comes as another services win for Unisys, which recently led a migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
