Advantra scores govt contract

Advantra has won the federal government's Group 5 outsourcing tender, expected to be worth up to $80 million over five years.

A government official said the contract would be a $30 million boost to Australian exports and would create nearly 100 jobs in southern Queensland, boosting activity in the local IT by $70 million.

The contract will cover around 4000 desktop computers across the Group 5 agencies. Advantra will be responsible for service, disaster recovery and consolidating infrastructure across the agencies.

The contract is said to save the agencies $10 million.

The agencies covered in the contract are the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the Department of Industry, Science and Tourism, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Department of Transport and Regional Development and the Department of Workplace Relations and Small Business.

Advantra won out over consultants including CSC, EDS, ITG, Unixys and Praxa. Advantra is a joint venture by Lend Lease, Telstra and IBM.
