Uni of Wollongong adds tenant to Innovation Campus

$40 million iC Enterprise 1 building lands broadband company, CommScope

The University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus has signed another tenant to its $40 million iC Enterprise 1 building, with broadband infrastructure company CommScope announcing it had penned a six-year lease with the facility.

Speaking to Computerworld Australia about the latest tenant to set up shop on the campus, director of corporate relations, Craig Peden, said the popularity of the site lies in the fact that it isn’t just office space.

“Tickets.com, an Indian ICT firm called MphasiS and CommScope are three IT and telco companies that realise the collaboration potential of being in Wollongong,” he said.

“There’s office space anywhere, but really that is only a fifth of what the campus does.

“It is about developing partnerships and we become very actively engaged with the organisation internally in the university.”

Calling the campus a fusion of collaboration between the university and the business sector, Peden said the facility has gone from strength to strength since its 10,000 metre iC Enterprise 1 building was officially launched by the NSW premier earlier this month.

“What they don’t get elsewhere is that open door to the university, and we almost call it a corporate concierge kind of service where we become the interface point and actively engaged,” he said.

“We don’t want a tenant here that only wants floorspace; we want a tenant who also wants to build on an existing relationship to make Wollongong a better place.”

Tickets.com signed a five-year deal with the campus in May, with the company relocating its Asia-Pacific headquarters from Miranda to the Enterprise 1 building.
