Microsoft's Hotmail, Office365 suffer outage (updated)

Webmail, Cloud services blotted out worldwide following service degradation

Australian businesses and users have been unable to access Office365 Cloud services or Hotmail email due to a worldwide outage. MSN.com and Live@edu accounts have also been affected.

The outage occurred over an hour ago.

Microsoft US in Redmond tweeted on the Office365 twitter account that "intermittent client connectivity was causing some users to have trouble with email connections. We continue to investigate," read the tweet.

Microsoft Australia wrote in a statement to Computerworld Australia that at approximately 8PM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), the vendor became aware of service degradation affecting multiple services.

"We are working to fully restore services and have begun to see services coming back online. We encourage users to visit our service status dashboards to receive the latest information,” read the statement.

Update 4.55pm: According to Microsoft's Office365 Twitter account, "We believe service restored for all #Office365. If customers are still having issues, please let us know. Thanks for your patience." The outage is believed to have been a product of a DNS issue.
