Victoria Police establish state-wide AV agreement

State-wide audio visual hardware agreement expected to derive greater value for $1.4m annual spend

Victoria Police is to establish a state-wide agreement for the supply of audio visual hardware for its police operations, training and administrative needs.

The agreement will include gear such as projectors, televisions, point-and-shoot digital still cameras, hand-held video recorder cameras, projection screens, stereo systems, interactive whiteboards and electronic whiteboards.

The agreement, which will run for an initial three-year term with the potential to run for an additional two years, excludes covert or high-tech video equipment, CCTV and speed cameras.

According to Victoria Police, the agency has previously made separate local arrangements with suppliers when sourcing audio visual hardware. All Victoria Police regions and departments will now place purchase orders under the proposed agreement.

The move to a state-wide agreement is expected to result in savings through reduced administrative efforts for Victoria Police and supplier partners as well as better value for money for the estimated $1.4 million annual audio visual spend of the agency.

In April, Victoria Police suspended attempts to replace its criminal history and crime reporting database LEAP, ahead of a redevelopment of the business case for the project.

The replacement, LINK, was initially planned for rollout last year but was put on hold, initially for six months, and has now been halted to allow the state government department to reconsider the business case and funding requirements.

The department estimated the project could ultimately add $100 million dollars to the original $68 million budget approved by government, and would extend the deadline for rollout a further two years. Follow Tim Lohman on Twitter: @Tlohman
