Intel invests in lab at Indian software company

Intel has invested in an e-Business Solutions lab at Bangalore-based Infosys Technologies Ltd., one of India's leading software services companies. The lab was inaugurated today by Intel's president and chief executive officer, Craig Barrett, who is on a stopover in Bangalore as part of an Asian tour.

Both companies are tight-lipped on the value of the Intel investment in the lab. Intel will provide the hardware, software, and technical information to help Infosys implement Intel technology across its customer base, according to Senapathy Gopalakrishnan, deputy managing director of Infosys.

The lab will focus on the migration of legacy applications to the Intel platform, and performance engineering around Intel platforms and architectures.

"By this partnership, we will have early access to Intel technologies, and will build skills around the Intel platform, which will give us an edge in our services business," added Gopalakrishnan. Intel and Infosys already have a business relationship, with Infosys doing the development of business applications for Intel's in-house use.
