Two per cent of Internode customers connect via IPv6

Broadband company said it doubled its goal for World IPv6 Day

Internode doubled its World IPv6 Day goal for connecting customers with the new IP addressing system, the company has revealed. The broadband company said it’s using IPv6 to deliver Internet access to more than two per cent of its customers. It had set a goal of one per cent.

World IPv6 Day starts Wednesday at 12:01 GMT, or 9:01 EST, when participants will permanently switch on Internet Protocol version 6 support. IPv6 provides about 340 undecillion IP addresses, compared to 4 billion addresses under IPv4.

Internode allowed customers to sign up for IPv6 services in August last year. This January, Internode made IPv6 the default choice for all new customers.

“IPv6 is now ready for prime time,” Internode managing director Simon Hackett said in a statement. He urged other ISPs and vendors to also enable IPv6 by default. “The most important lesson for Internode is that done right, customers will not even notice the change to IPv6.”
