Vodafone customers can expect better coverage on Sydney CityRail’s North Shore line after the telco switched on new network equipment in tunnels from Central to Town Hall, Town Hall to Wynyard and Wynyard to the Harbour Bridge.
Vodafone also upgraded equipment at two stops in the Sydney city circle, St James and Museum, so that customers can access 3G services.
Vodafone plans to turn on new equipment in the North Sydney and Chatswood railway tunnels this October, it said. “Further upgrades are scheduled over the next 12 months to improve the continuity of coverage in tunnels on the City Circle, Eastern Suburbs, Southern and Western lines,” the carrier said.
Telstra and Optus customers also recently service enhancements on Sydney public transportation. Optus switched on equipment on the North Shore and Western lines, while Telstra extended its mobile coverage to enable Sydney CBD rail commuters to utilise its Next G mobile network.
Vodafone has been investing in network upgrades and improved customer service in an effort to stop the flow of customers cancelling service. The telco’s chief executive, Bill Morrow, apologised to customers for the network’s problems in an earnings call earlier this week.
