ANZ Bank reneges on statements

The ANZ Bank has moved to repudiate statements from its own millennium implementation director alleging a host of problems within its $200 million millennium compliance project.

In a letter to ComputerWorld editor John Costello, ANZ chief information officer David Boyles claimed that the recent front page article (CW March 6, 1998), extensively quoting group 2000 implementation director Linda Dewar, "did not accurately reflect the ANZ's position on year 2000".

Boyles took particular issue with Dewar's statements at a recent millennium conference that the project would not be fully completed by the start of the next millennium.

"This is completely incorrect," he states in the letter.

"All ANZ's internal systems will be ready for the year 2000 by the end of 1998."
