Australian Data Centres (ADC) has awarded a multi-million dollar contract to Construction Control to develop the vendor’s new facility in Mitchell in the ACT.

According to Construction Control managing director Peter Wright, the company was chosen due to its ability to handle large projects. The firm recently completed the second stage of the $480 million Canberra airport terminal.

“This is the first stage of a $250 million data centre campus and we are keen to demonstrate our ability to bring complex projects in on time and within budget,” he said in a statement.

ADC managing director Rob Kelly said that the data centre will represent an investment of over $50 million in economic infrastructure for the ACT.

According to the vendor, the facility will have 3000 square metres of Tier III space. In addition to the fit-out facility, the company has an adjacent greenfield site to accommodate future growth. Both data centres have been designed for amalgamation into a technology campus in the future.

The facility will also include co-location options, shared suites, caged areas, high density pods and private data suites.

ADC’s data centre is expected to be in operation by October 2013. In 2011, the company was included on the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) data centre panel in the fit-out and greenfields categories.
