"Gi' us a job": computer society careers portal opens

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has launched an IT Careers Portal offering course and career information for IT professionals.

Launched by the NSW Minister for Information Technology, Kim Yeadon, ACS South Australian branch chair and IT Careers Portal project manager, Brenda Aynsley said the portal offers descriptions of over 100 IT-related jobs ranging from business analyst or computer engineer, through to Web architect, along with the qualifications and personal qualities required for each position.

Detailed information about university programs, vocational education and training courses, and vendor-training programs are also available.

"We've provided information about professional standards within the IT industry, the latest job and salary statistics and links to online recruitment agencies," she said.

ACS president John Ridge said the portal (www.itcareers.acs.org.au) will be a work in progress.

"The ACS has a commitment to keeping the site current and relevant, and will add new information as it becomes available as well we providing links to other complementary industry, government and education sites that add value in this area."
