Business software maker Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) on Tuesday introduced new versions of two of the company's mainframe security software packages.
CA announced CA-ACF2 version 6.4 and CA-Top Secret version 5.2, two software packages that provide virtually identical security functionality but have different user interfaces, said Nancy Newfield, CA divisional vice president in marketing for enterprise server solutions.
Existing customers of ACF2 and Top Secret can receive the updated version of their software package for free, Newfield said. Both products are available today and have a starting U.S. list price of US$26,028, she said.
The new releases come with the eTrust LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) Server, which allows users to take advantage of the LDAP protocol and query and update mainframe security information, the Islandia, New York-based company said. ETrust is CA's branding name for all of its security products. It is a way to allow distributed applications running on Unix, Windows NT and Linux to access the security information of ACF2 and Top Secret, Newfield said.
With the new versions, CA-ACF2 and CA-Top Secret customers also will be able to access information stored in IBM Corp.'s DB2 UDB (Universal Database) Server, commercial and in-house LDAP directories, third-party mainframe security solutions and other back-end data repositories, CA said.
Other enhancements in CA-ACF2 6.4 and CA-Top Secret 5.2 include the ability to administer security information and provide greater flexibility when defining a system user.
