News Interactive Chief Heads Off To The Big Apple

Almost two months after he oversaw a significant restructure of the News Interactive division in Australia, Rupert Murdoch's local internet chief Patrice McAree is leaving to work in News Corp's New York operation.

While McAree could not be reached for comment, the company itself has posted a very short story on its AustralianIT website, annoucing the move.

According to that report, "The head of News Limited's new media division, Patrice McAree, is leaving his Australian role to take up a position with The News Corporation Ltd in New York.

"He will be replaced as managing director of News Interactive by chief operating officer Warren Bright. Mr McAree will leave News Interactive in about two weeks."

Back in January, News Interactive retrenched or reassigned about a quarter of its staff. At the time, sources within the company claimed that News Corp's AustralianIT.com.au site was the only service currently making money. Some of the websites in Australia published by News Interactive include news.com.au, AustralianIT.com.au and goFish.com.au.
