Government agencies on track for online

Federal Government departments and agencies are on track to have all appropriate services online by the end of 2001, according to the latest Government Online survey.

The survey found that as at March 2001, 93 per cent of federal agencies will meet the Prime Minister's 1997 Investing for Growth online deadline for appropriate services.

Senator Ian Campbell, parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, said a small number of agencies were finding some elements of the Government Online Strategy "challenging", but progress was being made.

According to a recent Accenture report, Rhetoric versus reality: Closing the Gap, and assessment by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Australia is in the top tier of nations as far as e-government and e-readiness are concerned.
