Vodafone to launch "fastest tablet in Australia" next month

Vodafone will sell an Android tablet with the LTE Category 4 mobile data standard in Australia

Vodafone will sell an Android tablet with the LTE Category 4 mobile data standard in Australia from next month, it has announced.

Available through Vodafone from Wednesday, 14 August, the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G is billed as the "fastest tablet in Australia".

It supports the LTE Category 4 mobile data standard, the newest and fastest class of 4G.

Huawei says the tablet will handle download speeds up to a theoretical maximum of 150Mbps.

The MediaPad 10 Link 4G tablet will allow Vodafone customers to access LTE Category 4 network speeds in various parts of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

"Not only do we have the fastest 4G data speeds available in Sydney and Melbourne, we are now also proud to exclusively offer the fastest tablet in Australia," said Vodafone's General Manager of Devices, Katie Turkal.

"With ‘Cat 4’ devices, these speeds are even faster, at up to 150Mbps. That’s more than three times faster than today’s average Australian ADSL connection and fast enough to download a movie in less than one minute."

Vodafone claims it is the only network with 20Mhz spectrum for LTE Category 4 speeds running across all five mainland state capital cities in Australia.

Telstra is currently rolling out Category 4 upgrades around the nation, but the fastest speeds are only available in Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane at the time of writing.

Aside from its Category 4 support, the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G is a fairly run of the mill Android tablet.

It has a 10.1in IPS display with a low resolution of 1280x800, and runs the 4.1 Jelly Bean version of Android.

The tablet is powered by Huawei's own K3V2 1.2GHz quad-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and comes with just 8GB of internal memory.

A microSD card slot allows users to expand the memory.

The Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G will be available on three plans through Vodafone, all over 24 months.

The $35, $45, and $60 tablet plans include 2.5GB, 4GB and 8GB of data per month, respectively.

The MediaPad 10 Link 4G will be available online and through Vodafone dealers.
