PayPal to expand seller protection policy

Policy protects Australian merchants from fraudulent transactions

PayPal has announced that its seller protection policy will be expanded in Australia from 11 October, meaning that merchants are safeguarded against fraudulent transactions and items not received by the buyer.

Local online businesses who work with PayPal can use the expanded protection for no extra cost. However, vehicles and items such as digital goods are not eligible under the seller protection policy.

According to the payments provider, the policy will reduce the liability for fraud on behalf of the thousands of merchants selling online from Australia.

PayPal Australia managing director Jeff Clementz said that businesses currently selling on the Internet are forced to dedicate a huge amount of time and money to manage the risk of fraudulent transactions.

“They often lack the confidence to sell online due to the fear of fraud. The expanded policy ensures our merchant partners are able to operate with the security and peace of mind necessary to do business both locally and across the globe,” he said in a statement.
