Cricket Australia launches live match streaming subscription service

Fans can choose from an annual package costing $19.99 or a daily pass for $4.99

Cricket Australia is offering fans a live match streaming subscription service called Watch Live which can be accessed via the Cricket Australia Live iOS and Android app.

Punters will be charged an annual fee of $19.99 to use the video streaming service. If people don’t want to pay for an annual package, they can get a daily pass for $4.99.

Using the app, fans will be able to view Ashes test series, one day internationals, T20 international series, selected Southern Stars matches and the KFC T20 Big Bash League on their computer, smartphone or tablet.

In addition, people can listen to an audio only stream from Cricket Australia’s radio partners.

Cricket Australia media, communications and marketing executive general manager Ben Amarfio told Techworld Australia that the Live app has been optimised for 3G and 4G networks and is carrier agnostic.

“This is the first time that Cricket Australia, in conjunction with our joint venture partner Nine Entertainment, has produced an app,” he said.

The Live app replaced a previous app which was developed by Vodafone in 2009.

The cricket sporting body has signed a five-year contract with Accenture for live streaming and subscriber management services.

According to Amarfio, it selected Accenture because of the vendor’s integrated digital offerings and the Live Events and Sports managed services. These services include live adaptive streaming, event monitoring and IP-based video transmission.

The live streaming service will be deployed on Telstra’s cloud infrastructure.
