Telstra has driven further into the machine-to-machine (M2M) space, announcing a GPS-based tracking and management service for vehicle fleets.
Under a partnership with Securatrak, Telstra said it plans to sell the tracking service to several industries, including mining, engineering, vehicle rental and local councils.
The service lets businesses install tracking chips in vehicles and monitor each vehicle and driver using reporting software. The data collected can be used to improve fuel efficiency and work safety, according to Telstra director of M2M and partnerships, Mike Cihra.
“This partnership represents a significant milestone in our journey aimed at bringing M2M solutions closer to Australian businesses, with simple and affordable implementation,” Cihra said in a statement.
Telstra announced earlier this month that it had one million connected M2M services in operation. The telco recently signed a contract to provide 26,000 M2M handheld scanners to Australia Post.
