QSuper tenders for data centre services

Queensland super fund looking for a range of options including multi-site data centre hosting

Queensland government superannuation fund QSuper has released a request for information (RFI) for the provision of data centre services.

The super fund operates two data centres, one in the Brisbane central business district and a second site in Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane.

According to tender documents, it is interested in four different data centre services options. The first involves racks and power hosting services.

“It is expected that the proposed facilities will enable QSuper to manage its own asset and to provide supporting infrastructure such as power, cooling and fire suppression,” read the documents.

The proposed data centre facilities would need to feature electrical power feeds, uninterruptable power supply and generator backup.

Turning to the second option, this would involve the provision of storage and processing services but no ongoing management by the vendor.

The third option is aimed at a vendor who can offer managed infrastructure service including operating system patches and firmware updates. It may also include backup and restore services.

“It is expected that the respondent will provide and maintain basic services such as anti-virus, Active Directory and central log server services,” read the tender documents.

The fourth option would involve fully-managed data centre infrastructure services.

“It is expected that the respondent can fully manage most of QSuper’s IT base application stack, including, but not limited to, Citrix, XenApp, Windows file and print services, SharePoint services, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database hosting.”

The RFI closes on 17 February 2014.
