NextDC's Perth data centre, P1, will be the landing station for the APX-West and APX-Central cables under a plan unveiled today by SubPartners.

The 4700km APX-West cable will connect Perth to Singapore, with branches planned to Jakarta and Christmas Island. The 5300km APX-Central will connect Perth to Sydney with branches to Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne. Each cable has an initial design capacity of 32 terabits per second.

SubPartners "is engaged in detailed technical and commercial negotiations with the NextDC team," according to the company

"NEXTDC's P1 facility provides a well-managed and highly available Data Centre that will complement the strengths and advantages of APX-West and APX-Central very well," SubPartners CEO and co-founder, Bevan Slattery, said in a statement.

"Using P1 will also help us in maintaining our aggressive project timelines to deliver APX-West and APX-Central."

Both cables are slated to be ready for service in Q3 2016.

SubPartners is also planning a third four fibre-pair cable, APX-East, which will stretch from Australia to the west coast of the United States with branches to New Zealand and a number of Pacific nations.
