Telstra unveils interoperable videoconferencing service

Service connects Cisco, Polycom and Telstra IP telephony products

Businesses can communicate with each other using different videoconferencing products with a B2B service announced by Telstra.

Telstra said its new business to business video service, now available to Telstra cloud collaboration customers, makes Cisco, Telstra IP telephony (TIPT) and Polycom videoconferencing products interoperable. The product also simplifies the setup process; businesses can connect by dialling a single phone number, Telstra said.

Video calls can be made using videoconferencing equipment in the meeting room, desk phones, Web browsers and mobile devices.

“For some time we’ve seen the power and growth of video applications among consumers – but in business, technology barriers remain, which can prevent organisations from using video outside of their own workforce,” said Philip Jones, an executive director at Telstra Global Enterprise and Services.

“Telstra’s new business to business video solution will provide our cloud collaboration customers with video calling technology that is interoperable, easy to use and designed for business.”

Jones said the service adds value to recent Telstra partnerships with Cisco and videoconferencing provider Blue Jeans Network.
