Fair and Safe Work Qld invites offers for mobile app development

Health and safety inspectors need access to documents on the road

The Office of Fair and Safe Work Queensland (OFSWQ) has issued an invitation to offer for mobile application software development.

According to tender documents, OFSWQ comprises two business units: Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) and the Electrical Safety Office (ESO). It responds to health, safety and electrical safety incidents at workplaces across Queensland. OFSWQ has 18 offices in the state.

It plans to issue Windows tablets with mobile broadband, high definition camera, GPS and an audio recorder to health and safety inspectors, who will also have access to a custom designed software app solution that allows the completion and management of inspection records.

“OFSWQ currently manages and administers the scheduling of assessments through a desktop user interface. Inspectors may opt to complete a handwritten copy of the assessment, inspection report and notices,” read the tender documents.

“They then reference the numbered handwritten copy within the desktop user interface.”

Health and safety inspectors currently access completed health and safety assessments via email.

The scope of the invitation to offer includes development of a mobile app for deployment on the Windows tablet, testing of the mobile app and training for OFSWQ users.

“The main objective of this project is to make the OFSWQ inspectors a mobile technology enabled workforce. Inspectors are to be provided with all the necessary hardware and software tools that will enable them to attend an employer site, complete an assessment and have access to all historical and reference material,” read the tender documents.

The deadline for replies to the offer is 17 September, 2014.
