Vend point of sale system adds Bitcoin support

Transaction fees are set at 0.5 per cent, which is much less than fees charged to retailers by the big banks, Vend says

Online point of sale provider Vend has partnered with DC POS (Digital Currency Point of Sale) to allow retailers to transact with bitcoins.

Retailers enter an amount in their local currency into the Vend system. It then appears in their Bitcoin wallet, and seconds later a ‘green tick’ appears to confirm the money has been successfully transferred.

Bike Factory Outlet and Vivo Green Café in Australia are users of Vend and DC POS, and began accepting Bitcoin about three weeks ago.

“We’ve had a few customers make use of the offering and we’re adding ourselves to the Bitcoin registers so more people are aware that we take this form of payment. It’s appealing to be a small business able to offer something new and exciting to our customers,” said the IT manager for the businesses, Rohan Carroll.

Orea Café is another Australian user of Vend and DC POS that accepts Bitcoin payments from customers.

“We've been accepting Bitcoin payments for several months now, and it already makes up about 10 per cent of our daily takings," said Samantha Saunders, co-owner of the café.

Vend CEO Vaughan Rowsell said that transaction fees are at 0.5 per cent, which he said much less than fees charged to retailers by the big banks.

“It’s also secure, as Bitcoins act like cash so once the transaction has taken place, the money is the retailers. The shop or café is in control of any disputed amount not the credit card provider or the bank,” Vaughan added.
