Travellers landing at the Brisbane Airport can now pay for their train into the city using PayPal.

PayPal has signed a payments agreement with Brisbane's Airtrain, a rail service connecting the airport to the Brisbane CBD, Gold Coast and suburbs.

From today customers can pay with PayPal on the Airtrain website and mobile site. Airtrain said it will soon add PayPal to its iPhone app.

Airtrain marketing manager, Gunjan Allen, said that Airtrain signed the deal to make it simpler for customers to buy train tickets before arriving at the station.

“Our research shows that nine out of 10 consumers … plan their trips in advance and online plays a huge part in the planning process of travellers,” said Allen, citing a 2013 PricewaterhouseCoopers report.

“By partnering with PayPal, Brisbane’s Airtrain is able to deliver more convenient payment options for our customers, so they can spend less time planning and more time relaxing no matter where they are."

The agreement is part of a larger Web push by Airtrain, which includes discounts for online bookings, she added.

“Since launching our web-based initiatives, we have seen an exciting growth in online sales,” she said.

“With PayPal, we are providing customers with another effortless e-ticket offering and will continue to look at new initiatives and services designed to improve the benefits, time saving and efficiencies of using Airtrain for the airport connection.”
