Telstra strikes agreement to sell Presto movies and TV

Service is available from today, three weeks before Netflix subscription services go live in Australia and New Zealand

Telstra has signed an agreement to resell Presto’s subscription video-on-demand service to its customers.

This follows today’s announcement that Netflix will begin offering subscription movie and TV services from broadband operators – including iiNet and Optus – in Australia and New Zealand on March 24.

Under the agreement, Telstra will sell Presto TV, Presto Movies, and Presto Entertainment bundle subscriptions, providing users with access to thousands of hours of ad-free movies and TV shows on demand, the telco said.

The Presto service has recently become available on mobile devices, including Apple iPhone and Android smartphones.

Eric Kearley, director IPTV & pay TV at Telstra, said the service is available from today and Telstra will soon launch a Presto app on the T-Box, Telstra’s digital set top box. More than 600,000 T-Boxes have been sold in Australia.

Presto will be unmetered for customers connecting to the service via Foxtel broadband and Telstra fixed broadband. ISP and data charges will apply when viewing Presto over mobile networks and via non-Foxtel broadband and non-Telstra broadband services, the telco said.

Presto TV or Presto Movies cost $9.99 per month for standalone subscriptions or $14.99 per month, bundled with a Presto Entertainment subscription.

Telstra is offering mobile customers a free three month entertainment subscription.
