In brief: ATO website suffers under EOFY strain

Agency recommends people try the website later

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has apologised to people trying to file their 2015 tax return after issues with its online services today.

Attempts to access the ATO website today have periodically returned a message saying it is unavailable.

“We're experiencing some intermittent issues with our online services. We appreciate your patience & recommend that you try again later today,” tweeted the ATO.

An ATO spokesperson said it was trying to restore services as soon as possible.

Update 2/7/15: The ATO tweeted today that it has worked through the night to implement a system fix.

"There's still ongoing issues which we're working on. We'll let you know more soon."
