Fujitsu to spend $12.2m on West Sydney data centre upgrade

Money spent on power infrastructure, internal capacity upgrades

Fujitsu will spend $12.2 million on power infrastructure and internal capacity upgrades at its Western Sydney Data Centre (WSDC) as part of its 2025 roadmap.

The vendor’s roadmap — which was announced in May — outlines how the company will take advantage of infrastructure technologies that maximises performance, reliability, data security and sustainability in its Oceania data centres.

The WSDC upgrades include a $7 million power infrastructure upgrade and a $5.2 million upgrade of internal infrastructure capacity. Two 33 kilovolt feeders will be installed which will provide an additional 30 megawatts of power capacity to the data centre. Construction begins in August.

According to Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand CEO Mike Foster, the planning and design of the project has been in place for 12 months.

“The project team has had some interesting geographical challenges to address, including the need to underbore both the Great Western Highway and the M4 Motorway,” he said.

The WSDC project is the second initiative from the roadmap, with a $10 million upgrade of Fujitsu’s Malaga data centre in Perth to Tier IV certification announced in May.
